Formed in 1998, GROUNDATION is one of the world's reggae legends.
The first two albums (YOUNG TREE and EACH ONE TEACH ONE) established GROUNDATION's unique sonroots sound. The 2002 album HEBRON GATE was an immediate success, propelling the band to international renown as the masterpiece of their unique, progressive roots reggae. In 2018, following the departure of some of the original members, the legendary Californian band reformed around its leader HARRISON STAFFORD. He surrounded himself with the crème de la crème of musicians who, like him, had graduated from the prestigious Sonoma State University. The resulting sound remains deeply faithful to the jazz-infused reggae for which GROUNDATION has been renowned since its inception. This new generation of virtuosos infuses it with talent, creativity and live energy. After more than two decades and ten studio albums, GROUNDATION, who helped define American roots reggae, are back with CANDLE BURNING, their 11th studio album. This new work perpetuates the group's legend, with the same exacting standards of sophisticated music and impeccable sound quality, recorded in 100% analog. HARRISON STAFFORD, at the head of the band, has the power to create intense tracks with complex but spellbinding arrangements, mixed with committed, poetic and deeply human lyrics. As part of their commitment to respecting music and defending analog, the band chose to record their new album at the internationally renowned ICP Studio in Brussels. This state-of-the-art facility has welcomed some of the biggest names in music since its opening (Alain Bashung, Michel Polnareff, Benjamin Biolay, Brigitte Fontaine, Arno, Francis Cabrel, Johnny Hallyday, Stromae, Pharrell Williams, The Cure, Lady Gaga, Alicia Keys, Cat Stevens, Simple Minds, Lana Del Rey...). Mixing is handled by the legendary JIM FOX (Lion and Fox Studios). The result is an album of exceptional quality and vision.
