Jazz in Arles celebrates its 30th anniversary! An anniversary edition that takes you on a journey: from the intimate to the collective, from tradition to experimentation, from whispered voices to the freest of impulses.
> Evening 1 – May 27 • Louis Sclavis – 5TET INDIA A major figure in European improvised music, Louis Sclavis has been developing a unique body of work for several decades, at the crossroads of jazz, improvisation, and non-Western influences. An iconic clarinetist, he champions music based on listening, the freedom of the moment, and the power of the collective. With 5tet India, a new project inspired by India and continuing in the vein of his great nomadic works, he offers narrative and structured music, carried by singing melodies and supple rhythms. Surrounded by long-time collaborators and joined by trumpeter Olivier Laisney, he deploys a luminous and inventive sound palette, where composition and improvisation are in constant dialogue. On stage at Le Méjan: - Louis Sclavis – clarinets - Sarah Murcia – double bass - Olivier Laisney – trumpet - Benjamin Moussay – piano - Christophe Lavergne – drums • Duo Brady Founded in 2010 by cellists Michèle Pierre and Paul Colomb, Duo Brady was born out of a musical dialogue nourished by playing and improvisation. Trained at the Paris Conservatory (CNSM) and the Lausanne University of Music (HEMU), they have developed a cross-disciplinary language at the intersection of jazz and contemporary music. Between folk, progressive rock, and acoustic techno, their organic writing turns the cello into a veritable laboratory of rhythm and sound. With La Vie d'après, a repertoire conceived in the wake of the post-Covid period, they offer a lucid and vibrant reverie, where melancholy, collective energy, and danceable rhythms echo each other. Jazz Migration 2025 winners On stage at Le Méjan: - Michèle Pierre – cello - Paul Colomb – cello In partnership with Librairie Actes Sud & Cinéma du Méjan.
