The Provençal joust is inspired by medieval joust fights on horseback. More than a sport, it is a tradition dear to Provence.

This discipline consists in opposing two people, each on a boat, on top of a platform called "la tinteine". The goal is to send his opponent into the water. Each player is equipped with a spear, is protected by a chest protector and a cushion and holds in his left hand a witness that prevents him from removing the spear from his opponent. When the players board the boat, they make a "jibe" and the player who sent his opponent into the water is declared "fraire".
