The Marseille-Cassis is a 20 km foot race connecting Marseille to Cassis on the last Sunday in October. Created in 1979, it is one of the most famous races in France and attracts 20,000 runners from around the world every year.
The start is in front of the Stade Orange Vélodrome in Marseille. Riders then take the route de la Gineste through the Parc national des Calanques. The route culminates at the Col de la Gineste (327 m altitude) after a demanding 5 km climb, before descending to Cassis for a finish on the Route des Albizzi. The route offers a positive and negative vertical drop of around 330 metres, making the race as technical as it is spectacular.
