The Barbentane Artistic Group presents ‘The Mystery of the Birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ’, better known as ‘Pastorale Maurel’, the most famous in Provence, written in 1844 by Antoine Maurel in Marseille.
A story combining local traditions and biblical narrative: alerted by the announcement made to the shepherds, the characters from the Provençal nativity scene set off for Bethlehem. Along the way, they experience comical episodes set to song. Upon arrival at the stable, miracles occur: conflicts are resolved, infirmities disappear, the lost child is found, and even the gypsy is touched by grace.
