Paolo ZANZU - Harpsichord
Director of the period-instrument ensemble Le Stagioni, Paolo Zanzu is one of Europe's leading harpsichordists.
Following his unanimously acclaimed recording of the English Suites, he now turns his attention to another Bach masterpiece, the Goldberg Variations: a theme - entitled Aria - of overwhelming beauty and simplicity, followed by thirty variations, like thirty worlds of incredible variety of mood and character.
"A sublime stylistic and formal synthesis of an immense century, an elaborate and refined mathematical game, a kaleidoscope of endlessly renewed images, the Goldberg Variations are a monument to the history of music. The work features the harpsichord, for which it was expressly written. From this instrument, it draws all its richness of timbre and color, and hitherto unknown expressive possibilities."
