Galerie Laurent Godin is delighted to announce "Le Radiant", the new exhibition by Matt Frenot.
It's surprising, on discovering this new series of "drawings" by Matt Frenot, to imagine that they were partly made on the spot, transported on several occasions from his studio in Arles to the beaches of Piémanson or Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. Demonstrating a great economy of means - colored pencils, ink, pastels - these works stand out for their deliberate reduction of composition and the delicacy of their link to reality. As with his photographic work, the relationship to time is a determining factor here: Matt Frenot immerses himself in the light, attunes himself to the colors, and makes himself available so that the forms come into being, slowly, almost without his knowing it.
Alongside this new set of photographs will be extracts from "Fragments Dessinés", produced in the spring in the kitchens and gardens of the restaurant La Chassagnette, a collection of sketches taken on the spot of the products and materials used by Chef Armand Arnal in the preparation of his culinary compositions.
Matt Frenot studied at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Art et de Design de Nancy and the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie d'Arles. He took part in the Creation & Globalization research program at the Offshore school in Shanghai, directed by Paul Devautour.
His work spans the visual arts through photography, drawing, video, sound and writing. His approach is defined by a fragmentary representation of the places he explores in relation to color. From the domestic space where his pictorial writing takes shape to the complex environment of large megacities, he elaborates a language in which forms are both condensed and open.
