From 8 to 15 February 2026, the 9th edition of the Les Suds, en Hiver festival will take place across the Pays d'Arles region, offering a musical and festive interlude and promoting dialogue between cultures, aesthetics and generations.

Jazz, politics and decolonisation intertwine in this historical rollercoaster ride that reveals an incredible episode from the Cold War. In 1961, singer Abbey Lincoln and drummer Max Roach, civil rights activists and jazz icons, interrupted a UN Security Council session to protest against the assassination of Patrice Lumumba, Prime Minister of the newly independent Congo. In this country ravaged by civil war, the uranium-rich subsoil fuelled Western interference. The UN became the arena for a major geopolitical standoff, and Louis Armstrong, named ‘Ambassador of Jazz’, was sent on a mission to the Congo by the United States to divert attention from the CIA-backed coup...
