Marcus Miller - We want Miles
Marcus Miller's We Want Miles! project promises to be an exciting tribute to one of the most important figures not only in jazz, but in music history in general.
The We Want Miles! project includes selections from the iconic 1981 live recording in Japan as well as classic compositions from Miles' catalogue spanning the 1950s and 1960s, up to his final period, Tutu in 1986 and Amandla in 1989.
‘We will of course play music from all the important periods of Miles' career, but I will also use these incredible musicians to take Miles into the future and explore other things that Miles might have enjoyed playing in the future’... Miles was not one to look back; he was always focused on what lay ahead."
Marcus Miller (bass, bass clarinet) / Mike Stern (guitar) / Bill Evans (saxophone) / Mino Cinelu (percussion) / Russell Gunn (trumpet) / Brett Williams (keyboards) / Anwar Marshall (drums)
Samara Joy
Music has always been a guiding force in Samara's family. Her grandparents led the Philadelphia gospel group The Savettes, and her father toured with singer Andrae Crouch. Although her early influences were gospel and R&B, Samara discovered jazz while attending Fordham High School for the Arts, where she performed regularly with a jazz band.
Samara Joy was 22 when she was recognised as the new benchmark in vocal jazz and acclaimed by critics for her ‘custard-sweet’ tone (The New York Times) and ‘sweet, haunting’ singing (NPR Fresh Air). She has built a loyal following on TikTok and knows how to win over die-hard fans. In Linger Awhile, released in 2022, Samara updates jazz standards with a modern twist. The album not only showcases her timeless voice and musical wisdom, but also introduces this fundamental popular music to a new audience. With ‘Portrait’, released in 2024, Samara offers a glimpse of her evolution, not only as a singer of a generation, but also as a songwriter, arranger and band leader.
