His Majesty Ramses II, elected from Re, visits Paris.

The exhibition at the Grande Halle de la Villette ended on 6 September 2023.
His exceptionally long reign (67 years!) was marked by numerous military conquests and the erection of buildings and statues throughout the country. Today, he is omnipresent in the French Egyptological imagination. "Victorious Bull, Great of royalty, Sovereign of Upper and Lower Egypt, Lord of the Double Country".
In 1279 BC, Ouser-Maât-Rê-Setepenrê "Powerful is the balance of Ra, of the chosen one of Ra" was consecrated under the name of Ramses II. He also usurped the monuments of his predecessors, having his name engraved on temples that he had not built. He also remained famous for his private life, the figures of which make one's head spin. In the 67 years of his reign, he married a dozen royal wives (half of whom were his own daughters), had almost 200 concubines in the harem and fathered no fewer than 126 children.
Let's take a closer look at this pharaoh Ramses II, known as "the Great", who was the ruler of Egypt for half of the 19th dynasty?
