The experience
The Mediterranean has long been a strategic trading zone, attracting pirates and privateers since ancient times. This guided walk will immerse you in this history as you explore the emblematic landscapes of the island of Porquerolles.
Departure is from the tourist office, in the heart of Porquerolles village. The route crosses the village square before gradually climbing up to Fort Sainte Agathe. Access to the fort's tower, included in the tour, offers a 360° panoramic view of the Hyères harbor.
The walk continues towards the Moulin du Bonheur, then the lighthouse, offering an insight into the island's cultural and natural heritage. The return journey takes in the lagoons and the hamlet, before reaching the Emmanuel Lopez garden and seed bank.
Along the way, the tour explores the issues surrounding biological invasions. Certain exotic plants, which have become established after years of cohabitation, now represent a challenge to the fragile balance of ecosystems.
But local plants have not said their last word! Hidden away in their seed bank at the Conservatoire Botanique, native species are preparing to defend their territory. During the walk, like real privateers, you'll devise the best strategies to foil the plans of these new pirates!
Designed as a fun and educational activity, this outing invites young and old alike to observe, understand and actively participate, at the heart of the Parc national de Port-Cros.
