The Hôtel de Sade in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence is hosting a performance of Bizet's opera Carmen on Saturday 6 July at 9pm!
Version for 4 voices and 1 cello
Produced by Opéra de Rouen-Normandie and revived by Opéra Grand Avignon.
Carmen is one of those operas that is so well known that we have perhaps unlearnt to know it.
The opera is so well known that we may no longer be familiar with it, but it knows how to hide its secrets: punctuated by some of the most irresistible pages in the history of music, it is nonetheless, even today, a work of scandalous insolence; and although it is an interpersonal tragedy, it is also a picturesque portrait of an entire society that it takes pleasure in depicting here and there.
It is therefore the beating heart of Carmen's tragedy, the essence of this human drama of irreducible violence and universal scope, that this adaptation for four voices and a cello seeks to help us rediscover.
Frédéric Roels's production invites us to contemplate all the fragility and vulnerability of these all-too-human beings, unvarnished, reduced to its simplest form, and in a context of unprecedented proximity to the audience.
Public: 11 years and over
Book online only at the Hôtel de Sade ticket office
