The Mougins Museum pays tribute to Pablo Picasso who died 50 years ago in Mougins...
50 years ago, on the 8th of April 1973, Picasso died in Mougins. The art world comes together this year to celebrate this multi-faceted artist commonly known and recognised as a genius. A leading figure of modern art, Picasso was responsible for some of the most important artworks of the 20th century.

Although Picasso is at the origin of a turning point in art history, references to the ancient world are recurrent in his works.

The permanent collection at the Mougins Museum boasts a highly acclaimed museographic style which consists of juxtaposing artefacts from ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome with artworks by some of the most prominent artists from the 17th century through to the contemporary period. The influence of the ancient world is consistently infused into their works. This is specifically noticeable in the exhibited pieces by Picasso as they highlight his reinterpretation of ancient mythology and the minotaur motif.
