A historic agricultural fair that had disappeared, the Saint-Michel fair in Barcelonnette was revived in the early 2000s by the livestock farmers of the Ubaye valley. It has since established itself as one of the biggest fairs in the Southern Alps.
Held every year on the last Saturday in September, it's a great opportunity to share a convivial moment with those involved in the world of agriculture, and to take advantage of the many events on offer.
Throughout the day, around twenty farmers from the Alpes de Haute-Provence, Hautes-Alpes, Drôme, Vaucluse and Côte d'Or will be showing off their flocks. You can admire several hundred sheep and dozens of cows, goats and donkeys in Barcelonnette town centre.
As well as the agricultural fair, there's plenty of entertainment all day long. On the programme: farmers' and craftsmen's market, livestock sales, farm machinery exhibitions, sheep shearing, games, entertainment...
Also on offer in the streets of Barcelonnette: special menus featuring local lamb in the town's restaurants, and a shopkeepers' braderie to stock up on bargains.
The Foire Saint-Michel in Barcelonnette is also an opportunity for ski lovers to take advantage of exceptionally low season passes. During an exclusive flash sale, you can buy your skipass at a reduced price.
