In 1982, Bruce Springsteen began work on his sixth studio album. After the success of The River and his tour, he wanted to return to something simpler, stripped-down and highly personal.
The artist recorded this new album in the most sober and uncomplicated way possible: on a four-track cassette (Portastudio) in his New Jersey bedroom. At the same time, memories of his painful past gradually plunged him into depression as he forged a soothing relationship with Faye. His stay with Faye gave rise to one of his most important albums, Nebraska, as well as the legendary song "Born In The U.S.A".
