Marseille, first stage of the Olympic torch relay in France, will be celebrating!
1 century! 100 years since France awaited the return of the Olympic Games to its soil and - for the first time in history - it is through Marseille that Olympic fervor will take hold of the country. Never has a municipality other than the host city had the privilege and pride of being designated to host the arrival ceremony of the Olympic Flame. The torch - transported by the Belem from Greece - will touch down in the Old Port of Marseille on May 8 for a 48-hour popular festival.
And to celebrate the very first maritime arrival of this symbol of Olympism, the City of Marseille has prepared a program of free festivities open to all.

The pedestrianized Old Port celebrates from 11 a.m. / The City of Marseille launches the festivities to make this day an unforgettable moment. Exhibitions, participatory frescoes, photobooths, escape game, DJ set, dance, handi-basketball, freestyle football, musical entertainment will be offered for young and old. Shops will remain open and giant screens will broadcast the arrival of the Flame.
11 a.m. / Arrival of the Belem in Marseille: The historic three-masted ship will arrive via the northern harbor of Marseille with the Olympic Flame.
From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. / Parade at sea: Nearly a thousand boats are expected to welcome the Belem and accompany it on its journey through the Marseille harbor. The boats will pass as close as possible to the coast so that everyone can enjoy the show.

7 p.m. / Arrival of the Belem in the Old Port during a spectacular and unique welcome ceremony.
7:40 p.m. / Lighting of the Olympic Cauldron
A historic moment in front of tens of thousands of spectators in the Old Port and millions around the world which will mark the official launch of the Olympic Torch Relay in France.
Major free concert by Alonzo and Soprano to celebrate together the arrival of the Olympic Flame in the Old Port

Giant screens will be distributed throughout the pedestrianized Old Port. Follow the entire arrival of the Olympic Flame: from the parade at sea to the concert.
