The ballet combines the love story of the young Quiterie (Kitri) and the barber Basile with the odyssey of the "knight with the sad face". Don Quixote, an eccentric old knight obsessed with the ideal of chivalry, is haunted by a vision of utopian love, Dulcinea. The ballet features famous episodes such as the meeting with the travelling comedians, the battle against the windmills and Don Quixote and Kitri's famous "pas de deux", full of virtuosity that has become a workhorse for classical stars.
