This tale for all takes us on board the Ocean Viking chartered by SOS Méditerranée, and poetically tackles the complex subject of migrants who attempt to cross the Mediterranean at the risk of their lives.
Anaïs Allais Benbouali immersed herself in reading and listening to the many testimonies of survivors rescued by the SOS Méditerranée team aboard the Ocean Viking, their ambulance ship. Moved by the stories of the survivors, she sought the right words to convey them to children.
On stage, she summons two characters. First, the sea takes shape. It speaks to us, is indignant at human indifference and sometimes growls. In the distance, the Ocean Viking rescues those who have had no choice but to climb aboard skiffs, makeshift boats.
Two actresses, a cello and a minimalist set are all we need to bring this truth to life, while the voices we listen to with eyes closed reveal the stories of exile.
Written and directed by Anaïs Allais Benbouali
Performed by Amandine Dolé (actress and cellist) and Julia Gòmez Valcàrcel (actress).
NB: Inclusive performance Wed. June 3 at 10 a.m.
