‘At the end of the day, it's the often unexpected result that is remembered, not the number of hours spent to obtain it,’ says Jean-Marie Rivello, explaining the title of the exhibition. In her ‘Jardin du souvenir’, Danielle presents her ‘Tombeaux d'images’, ‘the reconstruction by accumulation of thousands of destroyed negatives and prints’. In their respective comma techniques, the duo create, imagine, experiment, in a word transgress and perhaps also have fun.
While Madame uses developer with a brush to ‘paint the image’ or uses a polaroid as a black and white negative, Monsieur exploits out-of-date film, improvising with chemicals, multiplying intermediate developments with or without film. These ‘games’ reveal a surprising, unexpected and paradoxical body of work. In a word, transgressive. Transgression, did you say transgression?
