This exhibition offers the visitor a scenography with new contents and interactive reconstructions where he can plunge into the dark meanders of the Mercantour mines and discover the professional and human daily life of the miners.
To extract a few precious kilos of copper or lead ore, men explored the bowels of the Mercantour mountains, first armed, in the Neolithic period, with bone and stone tools, then adding the use of fire from the Middle Ages onwards, until the arrival of explosives during the modern period. The "Underground Worlds" exhibition retraces the history of these techniques and men through the Neolithic mines of Roua and Vallauria, where one of the most important zinc, lead and silver deposits in the Southern Alps is located.
A fascinating journey into the subterranean worlds that appeals to the imagination, rich in poetry and mystery.
