Lecture by Mireille Vercellino - History-geography and cinema teacher
Marseille, a world city open to the Mediterranean, as noisy, colorful as it is cosmopolitan. From the very birth of cinema, the Lumière brothers' operators came to film here, but it was of course Marcel Pagnol's trilogy that established it as part of our national cinematographic heritage. Today, after Paris, it is the city that attracts the greatest number of filming days. Thanks to numerous film extracts, we'll be able to measure the spatial, urban and socio-economic transformations of this metropolis, and understand the evolution of its perception through the different points of view of filmmakers.
