Come and visit one of the forts of the Maginot Line in the Alps.
Discover the Roche-la-Croix site, a complex of stone masonry (19th century) and reinforced concrete (20th century) that bears witness to a relentless arms race.
Part of the Maginot Line in the Alps, this concrete structure was built at an altitude of 1,900 m between 1931 and 1936 under the stone battery.
As with all Maginot works, only the fighting blocks are visible, 6 in this case, with their embrasures or armoured bells, and in particular the imposing block no. 5, the raison d'être of this artillery work.
This single artillery block, equipped with an eclipse turret, prevented access from the Col de Larche. A crew of 161 men served this structure, which has preserved its weapons and power station.
Bring closed shoes, warm clothing and a headlamp if possible.
