A fascinating display of acrobatics, blending age-old traditions with modernity.
Circus Baobab is a collective of circus artists from Guinea and the diaspora, blending the traditional forms of expression found in African circus with the innovative styles of contemporary circus. Through a narrative exploring the themes of water and the environment, the acrobats engage in a dialogue with their history and cultural heritage – drawing in particular on key movements from initiation rites (symbolic pyramids, mask dances or sacred drumming, and the contortionists’ animal-inspired movements), whilst remaining conscious of the inevitable transformation of this traditional world. A reinvented poetry of movement, drawing on the codes of today’s youth.
