The Sud region - a trendy destination for geeks

The League of Legends championship, first European edition of EVO: Nice has now become a must as an e-sport destination! Marseille stands out with the game Cross The Ages and yearly 100% Sud meet-ups celebrate Pop culture and mangas.

Nice, the land of e-sport and geek events

It’s now official: the first European edition of EVO, the biggest e-sport combat game tournament, will take place under the sun of the Sud. Geeks from Nice, France and elsewhere have a date in the middle of Nice, at the Palais des Expositions, from 10th to 12th October 2025. This will confirm, for those who are still doubtful that the capital of the Côte d’Azur is THE place to be for e-sport. In February 2022, Nice distinguished itself by hosting a flagship event: the League of Legends (LFL) Championship. It doesn’t come as a big surprise, as the Côte d’Azur has been oriented toward new technologies since 1969, with the creation, a few kilometres from Nice, of the first European technology park: Sophia-Antipolis. More recently, the Isart Game Business School, the second video game school in the world, opened its campus there. At the same time, the town hosts popular events for gamersevery year , such as the Play Azur Festival, THE geek festival of the Côte d’Azur. Two days of pure joy every winter for video games, cinema and comics enthusiasts.

A game made in Marseille: Cross The Ages

The Sud also stands out in the field of games with the 100% Marseillais saga Cross The Ages, dreamed up by Sami Chlagou in 2023. You can follow the fascinating fight between Arkhante, the territory of the 7 magics, and Mantris, the ultra-digitalized city of mankind. The first NFT card game to blend playing cards, blockchain, cryptocurrencies and metaverses, Cross The Ages is a universe of its own, which is also declined in a line of clothing. Its fame has largely passed the borders of Provence: every month, 150,000 geeks from Marseille and all over the world connect to it on the PC, tablet or mobile application. Want to join the game?

Karaoke and mangas galore

Pearls of Pop culture

In Provence and on the Côte d’Azur, yearly meet-ups which are now an absolute must allow gamers to share their passion IRL for the 10th art. Each to their own:
The Mang’Azur in Toulon pays homage to Asian Pop culture with cosplays, giant karaoke and concerts by Japanese and Korean artists. Save the date: it always takes place at the beginning of each year at the Palais des Congrès. The Fantastickon in La Garde – in September – is well-known among fans of fantasy movies. In terms of geek events, October is particularly full with three musts: Éternellement Manga in Istres, le Festival de l’Imaginaire, Geek Family et autres mondes in Saint-Cannat and last of all the Replay Festival in Mouans-Sartoux.
