Description
Elephants beach, located a stone’s throw from the city centre of Sainte-Maxime, was made famous by the comic strip "Voyage de Babar" by Jean de Brunhoff, published in 1932.
The creator of Babar stayed in this area of Sainte-Maxime and drew inspiration from this magnificent landscape to illustrate the famous hot air balloon honeymoon of Babar and his wife Celeste.
Today, the De Brunhoff house still stands, overlooking the sea.
This unspoiled beach is perfect for relaxing in peace and quiet and sunbathing!
Unsupervised beach.
Two areas along the town's coastline are open to dogs year-round:
The dog beach in the town center: this is a section of the town center beach located near the Préconil bridge;
The inland area of Pointe des Sardinaux (except in July and August): this natural site (Sensitive Natural Area) is a popular meeting place for many dogs.
Dogs are prohibited year-round on the beaches of the city center (with the exception of the aforementioned area), Oursins, Nartelle, Garonnette, and the southern tip of Pointe des Sardinaux.
Dogs must be kept on a leash and their waste must be picked up. Guide dogs and assistance dogs are permitted on all beaches.
