Description

With incredible views of the mountains, the Goléon Lake hike is absolutely handsome, wildlife and alpine flowers will be waiting for you!
As well as offering unforgettable views of the Meije peaks, Lac du Goléon lies at the start of a wide grassy valley that stretches to the foot of the Aiguille du Goléon and the Aiguille Méridionale d'Arves. The possibility of pushing beyond the lake means that the route can be adapted to suit individual fitness levels and curiosity. Follow the trail through the beautiful hamlet of Valfroide, where lauze roofs still abound. Then follow the path along the right bank of the Maurian torrent. You start by crossing a large field on a gentle slope, then the incline of the glacial lock increases steadily and eventually forces the trail to continue in zigzags. Skirting a few rocky bars, you reach the top of the lock, which marks the beginning of the valley that shelters the lake and the Goléon refuge. If you feel like it, you can extend your walk by skirting the lake on the left-hand side, for a breathtaking panorama! The descent follows the same itinerary.
