Description

The Commanderie de la Bargemone was founded in the heart of Provence by the Knights Templar in the 13th century. This traditional 120ha Coteaux d’Aix en Provence appellation vineyard is accredited by Agriculture Biologique (organic farming).
The winery makes all three colours of wine but primarily Provence rosé. The terroir La Bargemone bottles Provence's terroir: clay-limestone and stony clay groundmass soils that encourage grapes to ripen. The typically dry and sun-drenched Mediterranean climate blown over by the Mistral helps keep vines cool and protect them from disease caused by humidity. La Bargemone vineyard has been farmed for 800 years and has a micro-climate that provides a cooler area which delays the harvest by about a fortnight compared to other vineyards. It's a huge asset that produces beautifully-coloured wine that packs a punch. The wine An Agriculture Biologique vineyard has to prove it's precise and consistent. It is carefully monitored all year round from the vine to the cellar. This attention to detail means all the rosés are certified as Agriculture Biologique and the red and white wine is currently being converted to organic farming. The grapes are picked at night at La Bargemone to lock in their freshness. Several varietals are grown: Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Counoise, Grenache, Vermentino, Sauvignon Blanc. The variety of grapes gives the wine real aromatic originality and striking consistency. Harvest notebook The 2020 harvests were very unusual. It was an abundant harvest but the arrival of the rain forced us to pick the grapes faster. So budbreak began 10 days earlier whilst the harvest was 2 weeks later than previous years. This delay enabled us to enjoy more days of sunshine to develop our fruity and floral aromas. New momentum The winery was taken over in September 2019 to instil it with new modern momentum yet hold onto the expertise and prestige that La Bargemone is famous for. A large-scale construction and redevelopment project is currently being rolled out to make and age wine at higher standards. Awards & prizes The standard of La Bargemone's wine is recognised every year at home and abroad. In France, the Concours Général Agricole has awarded several gold medals to the winery's wine. Abroad, vintages are regularly rewarded with scores in excess of 90 pts. Accessible for disabled
