The Ubaye Valley Dairy Cooperative has been making and selling cheese and yoghurt since 1949, using milk from 12 local farms.
The Fromagerie de Barcelonnette has developed its traditional mountain cheese-making expertise: its entire range benefits from the mountain appellation under the Chambeyron brand.
The cooperative has 3 sites:
- The Barcelonnette cheese dairy, where dry cheeses (raclette, tomme de l'Ubaye, tomme au génépy, Carline, Lou Foundre, Miche Gavotte, etc.) are made.
- The La Bréole cheese dairy, where fresh cheeses and yoghurts are made
- The maturing tunnel (a former railway tunnel), where some of the cheeses are matured in a natural cellar.
The Fromagerie de l'Ubaye is a showcase for milk production in the Ubaye Serre-Ponçon Valley, and is a must for epicureans looking for authentic, tasty products from the Alpes de Haute-Provence.
The quality of the products from the Coopérative Laitière de l'Ubaye has been praised many times over:
- Ubaye fromage blanc battu won the Bronze Medal at the Concours Général Agricole de Paris in 2017 and 2018.
- Carline (a cow's milk cheese matured for between 8 and 12 weeks) won a medal at the Concours Général Agricole de Paris in 2022.
You can find our products in our shops in Barcelonnette and La Bréole, at the Maison de Pays in Jausiers, and in many shops in the Ubaye Valley.
