Summer outdoor activities in Le Boréon
In summer, you can enjoy Le Boréon’s lake, located at 1,500 meters of altitude and opening onto the Mercantour National Park. It is a great place to enjoy a picnic, fishing or simply relax. While you are there, don’t miss the Wolf Park “Alpha” that is not far away from the lake. (Until further notice, the park is closed due to severe weather in October, 2020).
If you go on holidays to Le Boréon, don’t forget your walking shoes. 450 kilometers of marked hiking trails winding through the mountains are accessible to all levels. Whether you go hiking with your family or trailing with friends, you will reach 3000-meter high peaks. You can hike four GRs (the GR5, GR52, GR52A and GR510) through the magnificent landscapes of this tourist region and the historical trails of the Route des Grandes Alpes and Via Alpina. During your mountain hike, discover the varied fauna and flora. Perhaps you will be lucky enough to come across ibexes, chamois, mouflons or marmots along the way.
From Saint Martin Vésubie, you can hike one of the trail itineraries in the French-Italian enchanting protected natural areas. The circuits are accessible to all levels. From the village, you can also go mountain biking through the site.
Le Boréon is also very appreciated by mountaineering and climbing enthusiasts. Different areas are dedicated to these practices such as the routes of the cliff of Salèse or the cliff of the Trou du Diable, located nearby. The Gélas summit is located at 3,143 meters of altitude and overlooks the Mercantour Massif. It is the perfect place to try mountaineering and climbing or improve your skills. You can go on your own or with a guide.
