A secret town

Perhaps you’ve read or browsed through the writing of Manosque’s most famous personality: Jean Giono. The Provence he describes in the Trilogie de Pan is what you will discover when you arrive in this beautiful destination of the South of France, between the Luberon et du Verdon natural regional Parks. You enter the old town through the porte Saunerie or porte Soubeyran gates, which open onto little streets and esplanades with fountains. A few covered passage-ways which are known as andrônes give a subtly secret feeling to your visit. Next we head for the Centre Jean Giono which presents different aspects of local heritage. The house where the writer was born rounds off this fascinating visit nicely. And what better way of getting to know the region than setting off on the Route des Senteurs et des Saveurs (road of scents and flavours) and many others.

Discovering the region of Manosque

Heightened senses

To let the charm of Provence enchant you, take the Route Jean Giono and visit Manosque and the surrounding area with its châteaux, villages full of character and colourful fields. The unavoidable natural element is of course the vine, which ripens around Pierrevert. The AOP of the same name can be discovered and tasted at Domaine La Blaque. With the Syrah, Grenache and Viognier, the aromas literally explode and are a delight to the taste buds of wine connoisseurs. A corner of Provencal terroir to be appreciated. And then go for a walk on one of the accessible trails with the family in the Montagne de Lure or go round the most beautiful villages in the Alpes de Haute-Provence. The Lake of Esparron and its cool waters open their arms to you. Climb aboard your electric boat and take a ride on the Verdon to see its wonders.

If you are wondering what to visit in Manosque, you’ll be surprised to hear that a well-known brand has its headquarters in this town. Dive into a world of perfumes and gentleness on the production site of l’Occitane en Provence . You’ll walk around the workshops where cosmetics are made from natural raw materials. The adjoining museum outlines the history of the company. To end this sensory escape and make the most of wild and protected nature, you don’t need to go far. Hop on your mountain bike and pedal off through the pine trees in the forêt de Pélissier for a quite athletic course which is well worth it for its magnificent panoramas.
