The house of Alexandra David-Néel

Louise Eugénie Alexandrine Marie David is an explorer, anthropologist, writer and artist who has taken a special interest in Buddhism and the cultures of India and Tibet. Her books have been sold all over the world, and have become bestsellers.

In particular, she managed to reach and stay in the forbidden capital of Tibet and owes her fame, even today, to her works translated into many languages. Meet this exceptional woman by visiting her former home, which now houses a museum dedicated to her.

A rural heritage in the spotlight

The Gassendi Museum, located in Digne-les-Bains, is renowned for its varied collections: botany, contemporary art, 19th-century art, scientific objects…

The valleys of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department have a sometimes unique know-how to share. Museums promote this heritage. What to do, what to see? for example, you can visit the Ecomuseum of the Sisteron Country in Sisteron, the House-Museum of the Vauban Forts of the Haut Verdon in Colmars, the Museum of Workers’ Memory, Mines and Miners in Saint-Maime, the Ecomuseum of the Forge in Seyne-les-Alpes…
