The Sainte-Baume Massif
Between the Bouches-du-Rhône and the Var, the Sainte-Baume massif peaks at over 1150 meters above sea level, at the signal of the Béguines. Walking and cycling enthusiasts will be able to explore many routes. The fauna and flora are remarkable, with a relict forest composed mainly of beech trees. Various buildings are a reminder of the particularly rich human history in this area. The sanctuary of Sainte-Baume and the basilica of Saint-Maximin have preserved the relics of Mary Magdalene for centuries. To the north of the massif, the town of Saint-Maximin is dominated by an incredible basilica in many respects. During your walks in the Park, you will sometimes come across partially buried cylindrical constructions. These are ice boxes, which were used to naturally produce ice for the inhabitants of Marseille, Aix-en-Provence or Toulon.
