Provence Verte
This natural region can be visited for its landscapes, for its authentic villages such as Saint-Zacharie, Correns or Châteauvert, or for its heritage. Provence Verte is mainly watered by the Argens, a coastal river 115 kilometers long.
The Sainte-Baume Massif
Between the Var and the Bouches-du-Rhône, the Sainte-Baume massif reaches an altitude of more than a thousand meters, at the signal of the Béguines. Lovers of outdoor leisure activities are in love with its landscapes. The fauna and flora are remarkable, including a relict forest, mostly made up of beech trees. The Sainte-Baume is a land of spirituality, pagan then Christian. Its territory preserves many testimonies. Marie-Madeleine, a character from the Gospels, is said to have come to find refuge in a cave at altitude, transformed into a church and sanctuary. At the foot of the massif, the town of Saint-Maximin is dominated by an incredible basilica in many ways. At the bend of a path, you may come across dry stone constructions partly buried. These coolers were used to produce the ice loaves intended for the bourgeoisie of the big cities of Provence.
