The Sainte-Baume National Park
Between the Bouches-du-Rhône and the Var, the Sainte-Baume massif culminates at more than a thousand meters. The Natural Park offers an incredible playground for lovers of nature activities: hiking, mountain biking, horse riding, climbing… The fauna and flora are remarkable, with numerous animal species: woodpecker, red squirrel, orpheus warbler, Jean-le-blanc circaète, little scops owl, little owl, diving owl, proyer bunting, wild bunting…
The Sainte-Baume is a high place of spirituality, pagan then Christian. Numerous monuments bear witness to this. The Grotto of Sainte-Baume and the Basilica of Saint-Maximin have preserved for centuries the relics of Mary Magdalene, disciple of Christ. The Basilica of Saint-Maximin is quite simply the largest Gothic building in Provence. This religious monument welcomes the relics of Mary Magdalene. At the bend of a path, you will sometimes come across cylindrical constructions partly buried. These coolers produced the ice loaves for the inhabitants of Aix-en-Provence, Toulon or Marseille.
