The wines of Gigondas

At the gateway to the Dentelles de Montmirail, the village of Gigondas is famous for its vineyards cultivated since ancient times. The wines are made from different grape varieties: grenache, syrah and mourvèdre. You will be able to meet the wine estates of the Comtat Venaissin and taste, always with moderation, the numerous wines that make the richness of this region.

Gigondas is also a French wine Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC), with a production of red and rosé wines.

The Dentelles de Montmirail

Located in the north of Provence, the Dentelles de Montmirail are famous for their breathtaking cliffs. Nature lovers can explore the many hiking trails, or cycle or mountain bike along the roads and paths.  The Dentelles de Montmirail culminate at an altitude of 734 metres (2,400 ft), at the peak of Saint-Amand.

Monuments and heritage

The village of Gigondas, located in the former principality of Orange, is still surrounded by its ancient medieval ramparts.

The feudal castle was the property of the Princes of Orange. In the 17th century, the Hospices were established in the building. After the French Revolution, the castle was converted into a school for girls, before being abandoned in 1904.

The church of Saint Catherine dates from the 18th century. You can admire a beautiful belfry, a clock and a sundial from the same period. A niche on its façade houses the statue of the Immaculate Conception.
