In the Vaucluse, the dynamic village of La Tour-d’Aigues seduces by its authentic charm. All around? The luminous landscapes of the South Luberon.

The heritage of La Tour d’Aigues attracts many visitors. The Renaissance Château is one of the most beautiful in Provence. You can also take a stroll through the streets of the historic centre, or visit the church of Notre Dame de Romegas.

At La Tour-d’Aigues, nature is always accessible. The village is the starting point of many hiking trails, with itineraries suitable for the uninitiated as well as experienced walkers. Other activities can be practiced in the Luberon: horse riding, initiation to golf, via ferrata, tree climbing, paragliding…

Bouillabaisse with fish of the day, rosé wines, summer fruits, tapenade and olive oil, aïoli, socca or fougasse, ratatouille, lamb from La Crau, goat’s cheese, calissons from Aix-en-Provence, Marseille shuttles or lavender honey… The attractiveness of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region is also based on renowned specialties. The terroir is part of the identity of this part of the Luberon, where producers in love with their trade perpetuate traditions that are sometimes centuries old. A weekly market is held on Tuesday mornings in the heart of the town. The village of La Tour-d’Aigues also offers to the 3900 inhabitants as well as to visitors passing through several useful stores and a restful atmosphere.

The Luberon Regional Natural Park

The establishment of the Luberon Regional Natural Park in 1977 was essential in view of the diversity of its territories. Between vineyards, meadows and forests, valleys and hills, the Park offers visitors a mosaic of landscapes. As you walk through the Park, you can admire more than 270 different species of vertebrates. You will be able to observe the Jean-le-Blanc circaet, Bonelli’s eagle and the Egyptian vulture.

The Luberon can also be explored by bike. From La Tour-d’Aigues, you can set off on the roads and paths of the Regional Natural Park, to discover the preserved territory. The villages of the Luberon have all developed their heritage. Some of them have been labelled the most beautiful villages of France: Ansouis, Lourmarin, Gordes, Roussillon and Ménerbes.

Museums close to La Tour d’Aigues

Housed in the Château de La Tour d’Aigues, the Musée des Faïences boasts an astonishing collection of earthenware dating from the Renaissance to the French Revolution. Most of these pieces were discovered during archaeological digs at the château. They had been buried and broken for several centuries. The courtyard of the castle regularly hosts concerts, festivals and cultural events.

Other towns renowned for their museums can easily be reached from La Tour d’Aigues. Aix-en-Provence is around thirty kilometres away, and is home to many museums and monuments: the Granet museum, the Paul Cézanne studio, the Pavillon Vendôme, the Vasarely Foundation…
