You can also discover the local cuisine by visiting the various markets in the area. A market is held on Wednesday afternoons in summer in Rustrel.

Discovering the Luberon

Between the Vaucluse and the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, the Luberon Regional Natural Park offers a great diversity of landscapes, between the Montagne de Lure, the Pays d’Apt and Forcalquier, the Calavon valley, the Vaucluse mountains, the Durance valley… Walking in the Park, you can observe a little less than 300 different species of vertebrates. Ornithology enthusiasts can notably see rare birds of prey such as the Egyptian vulture, or small birds of prey. The Luberon can also be explored by bike.

From Rustrel, you can take the roads and paths of the Regional Natural Park, to meet the people of a famous territory. The Luberon is also known for its picturesque hilltop villages, some of which are located near Rustrel.

The museums of Vaucluse

During your stay, you will find many ideas for cultural activities.

You absolutely must visit the Provençal Colorado of Rustrel, a tourist site located on former ochre mines.

The neighbouring villages have several museums:

  • The Musée d’Apt presents the economic history of the Luberon region.
  • The Fondation Blachère, now in Bonnieux, is devoted to African art.
  • The lavender museum in Cabrières-d’Avignon reveals the secrets of this essential plant of Provence.
