Mountain Biking: On the Trails of Provence

In Val de Durance, on the famous Terres Noires, on the coast near Ramatuelle, on one of the big FFC mountain bike crossings, or the first French Bike Park. In Provence, there are a thousand ways to go mountain biking.

The Digne Countryside

The Provençal Capital of Mountain Biking

With its VTT-FFC label, awarded to the regions that offer quality mountain biking, the Val de Durance Mountain Bike Base is a huge natural wilderness that boasts 600 kilometres of signposted routes and 30 trails open to everyone. A dedicated course for electric mountain bikes has also been laid out. Digne-les-Bains is also at the crossroads of Les Chemins du Soleil and L’Alpes-Provence, two of the big mountain bike crossings of the Fédération Française de Cyclisme. Since 2016, the town has also been equipped with the first French Bike Park: the EVO Bike Park. With its 7 runs and 235 metres of descent it promises you your fill of thrills! Finally, there’s the not-to-miss Terres Noires , home of the famous Raid des Terres Noires , a race that attracts mountain bikers from the world over every year.

Ramatuelle

A Trail by the Sea

East of Hyères, in the Var near Ramatuelle (like Cavalaire and Saint-Tropez) there are fine mountain biking trails, alternating between sandy roads by the sea, woodland roads, and rocky roads. By climbing to the heights you will enjoy a bird’s eye view of the sea. Go to Pep’s Spirit to get kitted out and arrange for a qualified guide.

The Transverdon

The Big Mountain Bike Crossing

Registered with the Fédération France de Cyclisme, the TransVerdon starts at the Col d’Allos at an altitude of 2247 metres. It reaches Gréoux-les-Bains via a 260-kilometre trail on fun and varied paths where it’s possible to take regular breaks for a swim. The TransVerdon route will lead you through the magnificent landscapes of the Parc Naturel Régional du Verdon with its mountains, lakes and the famous gorges. At the end of the trail you will discover the Plateau de Valensole and its lavender fields. Lodging is available all along the itinerary.
