Description
This animation highlights the German fortifications, built between 1943 and 1944, which were intended to thwart any attempt at a landing in the south of France by creating a defensive line similar to the Atlantic Wall.
This 500-metre walking tour immerses you in the history of the bunkers!
The walk, which will begin before nightfall, aims to explain the reasons behind this fortification project, the conditions under which it took place, and the composition of this fortified line, which remained unfinished on the eve of the D-Day landings in Provence. Emphasis will also be placed on the construction process of these concrete structures and the camouflage techniques employed by the German engineering corps. Finally, an overview of the occupying forces and their armaments will be provided.
The tour will be led by an experienced professional guide who will bring the tour to life with illustrative examples.
This tour is aimed at those with an interest in military history who already have a basic understanding of the Second World War. It is therefore not recommended for young children. Finally, the tour cannot take place unless weather conditions are favourable.
PRACTICAL INFORMATION
- Each participant must bring a light to illuminate their path: a torch or the ‘torch’ function on their smartphone.
- Participants must wear closed-toe footwear, such as trainers.
- It is strongly recommended that you wear long-sleeved clothing or apply mosquito repellent.
