Description
The Festival is strengthening its ties with the Pôle National Supérieur de Danse Rosella Hightower, offering dancers of the Cannes Jeune Ballet a privileged space for experimentation and encounters with renowned choreographers.
Through this programme, the performers develop their stage experience with works of distinctive choreographic voices, including Dreamers, a new creation commissioned from Pontus Lidberg.
On the programme: three works and three distinct worlds. With *Dreamers*, the Swedish choreographer Pontus Lidberg – the new director of the Nice Opera Ballet – revisits a piece originally conceived in Dresden, inspired by the mystical poetry of Rumi, the 13th-century Persian theologian born into a world as precarious and turbulent as our own. Drawing on the identity of his fifteen performers to bring the choreography to life, he explores a new incarnation of it, shaped by their energy and sensitivity.
The personalities of the young trainee dancers will also take centre stage in Infinite, by Lorena Nogal. The Spanish choreographer, a member of the La Veronal collective, presents a stage adaptation of the striking performances she conceived during the 2025 Festival for the Cannes Jeune Ballet at La Malmaison, resonating with the world of visual artist Jean-Michel Othoniel. Her creation for ten performers develops an uninterrupted flow of movement, with each gesture giving rise to the next in an organic and cyclical dynamic. As for Jean-Christophe Maillot, director of the Ballets de Monte-Carlo, with Dov’è la luna—created for seven dancers in 1994 to Alexander Scriabin’s Piano Concerto—he offers a finely honed distillation of abstraction in which academic technique is placed at the service of emotion.
