Description
"George Sand and Jules Verne, a surprising literary encounter" by Pascal Casanova.
Voyage au center de la terre" (Journey to the Center of the Earth) was published by Hetzel on November 25, 1864. Its author, Jules Verne, was only 36 years old and still in his infancy. A few weeks later, Georges Sand had a short novel published by Michel Lévy, "Laura, Voyage dans le cristal". In her diary, on July 21, 1865, she writes: "I am now reading Verne's Voyage au center de la Terre, which so far looks a little too much like my Voyage dans le cristal". Indeed, the two works bear a striking resemblance to each other: places, characters, plot. So what happened? We'll be answering this mystery, which is at the root of a beautiful encounter between two giants of French literature.
A lecture to mark the 150th anniversary of Georges Sand's death.
