Description
For this 8th meeting of the Monday conferences, let's go to new destinations: the exoplanets. Xavier Delfosse, astronomer at the IPAG, will explain the procedures used by researchers to determine the existence of life on such planets
What if nearby exoplanets were an opportunity to search for extraterrestrial life?
Since the discovery of the first exoplanet orbiting a star other than our Sun a quarter century ago, several thousand other planets have been discovered. Some are similar in size to Earth and orbit at a distance from their star, making the presence of liquid water on their surface imaginable. Major projects are underway to try to analyze what the nearest Exo-Earths are made of, and eventually to try to find traces of life on these planets. How do researchers determine if such planets can harbor life?
