Description
Wandering freely between ethio-jazz, free jazz and rock riffs, their crossed chords, at once in tension, in unison or in counterpoint to the emotions, full of humor and sparkle, sublimate the harsh beauty of these Ethiopian melodies...

In this Ethiopian music ensemble, the usual languorous brassy flights give way to acoustic bass, double bass and drums, weaving a rich, complex universe of tension and resolution in the service of the great Voice of Addis Ababa! Eténèsh Wassié's three accomplices come from rock, improvised music and jazz backgrounds and, without denying their roots, serve up an incantatory song of harsh beauty! Breathless, husky murmurs or a powerful, richly inflected timbre, she sings ballads and songs reminiscent of the cabaret tradition of the Azmari (East African Griots), with their improvisations, stage bursts and humor. Their selective affinities give rise to a hybrid music with joyful, bewitching rhythms.
Having come to Suds in 2012 with the Le Tigre des Platanes project, this magnetic singer is accompanied here by Mathieu Sourisseau on acoustic bass (he also plays alongside Sam Karpienia in BOUCS), Sébastien Bacquias on double bass and Fabien Duscombs on drums.
