Description

Discover the exhibition: 100 works exploring the theme of ‘Work’ this season at the Musée des Alpilles.
The Alpilles Museum is hosting two works from the Musée d’Orsay that explore the body at work and human dignity. "Aimé-Jules Dalou’s *The Stone Breaker* pays a poignant tribute to the hardships of manual labour through a figure shaped by exertion, echoing the local history of the quarries. René Baudichon’s *The Sower*, meanwhile, embodies hope and renewal, celebrating the rural world and the boom in seed production in Saint-Rémy. Universal figures, these works engage with the region’s economic history and transcend a mere record of the past: they are mirrors held up to our own questions about labour, dignity and hope."
