Compositions influenced by Russian, Romanian, and Manouche music
Divano Dromensa means “At the Crossroads.” The group aims to celebrate Romani cultures by envisioning a musical journey stretching from the port of Odessa to the Mediterranean coast, passing through Romania, the Carpathians, and the Balkans. In doing so, they create a metaphor for this Gypsy musical diaspora, where Slavic voices, the frenzied rhythms of the tarafs, swinging guitars, the poetic sounds of the Balkan accordion, and old Polish melodies all come together to invent a form of cabaret open to the stars and the brotherhood of peoples.
