Description
The Glanum archaeological site and the Observatoire de la langue et de la culture provençales (Observatory of the Provençal language and culture) are joining forces to present the 1st edition of a day devoted to Provençal culture.
Programme for the day
- 10.30 am: guided tour of the site (no additional charge).
- 2.30pm, 3.30pm and 4.30pm: costumes from the Pays d'Arles through the ages (presentation of costumes by the Reneissènço association).
A parallel inspired by the famous one between the Venus of Arles and the Arlésienne... The ladies of the Reneissènço group from Arles will, for a day, take the place of those who made Glanum shine with their drapery, jewellery and headdresses in ancient times. Renowned for the quality of their reconstructions of Provençal fashions, these beauties will be showing the public their own finery: the costumes of Arles as they evolved from the 18th to the early 20th century.
- 6.30pm: Free concert by Provençal rock band Cortesia (free entry from 6pm).
- And all day long...
Children can have fun discovering Glanum, thanks to a visit booklet specially designed for the occasion! Children and their families will be able to take part in an investigation to find out all about the daily life of the ancient city's inhabitants, as well as anecdotes about contemporary Provence, its culture, traditions and legends.
The book will be handed out free of charge, and budding detectives will be given a reward at the end of their investigation, as a souvenir of a day in Provence and to learn even more about the region's history!
