Description

From the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, with its remarkable 17th-century painted paneling, to the houses adorned with carved dates and delicate wrought-iron railings, this tour immerses you in the history and mountain heritage of the region.
During a guided walk through the heart of a typical village in the Haute Romanche region, listen as the guide tells the story of a region shaped by agriculture, livestock farming, and mountain life. The tour begins with an exploration of the landscape, offering insight into the layout of farmland and alpine pastures, as well as how the local way of life has evolved over the centuries. You’ll then discover the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, a true heritage gem known for its magnificent 17th-century painted paneling, which bears witness to the region’s artistic craftsmanship and cultural richness. The walk continues through the village’s narrow streets, where you’ll encounter rural architecture characteristic of the Haute Romanche region: simple facades punctuated by refined details, dates carved into the stone, and rare wrought-iron gates with basket-handle designs all reveal the unique identity of this well-preserved mountain heritage. A friendly and immersive tour offering a fresh perspective on the landscapes and traditions of a charming Alpine village. Guided tour led by Elsa Giraud, historian and tour guide, in partnership with the La Grave town hall.
