As part of the theme “Heritage in Peril: Revive, Resist, Reimagine,” the Municipal Archives invite you to explore, through a presentation of documents from their collections, the moments when Toulon’s heritage was threatened.
Program:
> Saturday, September 19
10:00 a.m. / 10:45 a.m. / 2:00 p.m.: guided tours
11:30 a.m.: introductory workshop on using the Archives’ website
3:30 p.m.: Lecture “Restoring to Preserve: Safeguarding the Toulon Archives” by Marie Vinourd, followed by a social gathering.
Are you aware of the risks to which paper documents are exposed? How can we protect them and preserve our written heritage? What techniques are used to restore a document at risk? Marie Vinourd, a conservator at the Atelier du Livre, Conservation–Restoration, will explain the relevant guidelines and share concrete examples of documents restored in recent years at the Toulon Archives.

11:30 a.m.: introductory workshop on using the Archives’ website
2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.: “Parchments and Illuminations” family workshop led by a docent from the Var Archaeological Center. Discover the evolution of writing throughout the ages, illumination techniques, and the tools and pigments used, before creating your own initial letter (ages 7 and up).
All weekend long, games based on documents from the Archives (puzzles, memory games, battleship, etc.) will be available for everyone to play on the Archives’ terrace.
