Description
From July 11 to 14, 2026, as part of the Jazz à Porquerolles festival, singer and educator Cécile Messyasz will lead a workshop focused on vocal techniques in jazz and Brazilian music.
Over the course of four mornings from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., participants will learn several pieces from the jazz and Brazilian repertoires. The workshop will focus on:
- learning polyphonic standards
- listening and rhythmic precision in group vocal work
- interpreting lyrics and style
- phrasing specific to jazz and Brazilian music
The repertoire will be sung in French, English, and Portuguese to explore different vocal timbres and musical cultures.
This workshop offers the opportunity to:
- discover vocal ensemble singing and warm-up exercises
- develop listening skills among the voices
- work on swing, groove, and rhythm
- explore the sounds of Brazilian music
- experience the joy of singing in polyphony
- prepare and perform a final presentation
Cécile Messyasz teaches at the Rostropovich-Landowski Conservatory in Saint-Tropez. She was trained in the O Passo method, a pedagogical approach to rhythm developed by Brazilian musician and educator Lucas Cravata.
This workshop is intended for:
• amateur singers who already have some vocal experience
• students at music schools or conservatories
• musicians interested in exploring group vocal work
• anyone interested in vocal jazz, harmonies, and polyphonic singing
Previous singing experience is recommended.
It is not necessary to be fluent in English or Portuguese.
