Description
Discover the next exhibition at the Sébastien art center. André Lhote and the Cubists in Provence.
The exhibition *Geometries of the Landscape* offers an interpretation of Cubism through the Provençal landscape. Focusing on André Lhote and Provençal Cubist painters, it shows how the southern region became a space for formal experimentation. Here, the artists developed an approach based on the construction and geometrization of reality. As a central figure, Lhote emerges as a conduit and teacher of Cubism. The exhibition thus highlights a history of Cubism rooted in the South, straddling modernity and tradition.
In the early 20th century, Cubism profoundly transformed the representation of landscape. With *Geometries of the Landscape*, the Centre d’Art Sébastien explores the connections between this major modernist movement and Provence, whose forms, light, and landscapes have inspired numerous artists. Bringing together works by André Lhote, Albert Gleizes, Christian d’Espic, and Yves Alix, the exhibition shows how hills, villages, and horizons become the building blocks of a new way of seeing.
